May 4:            Interpretative Reading of Haitian Immigrant Writer/Activist Edwidge Danticat’s Short Story—“The Missing Peace”—Hazel Bergtholdt will introduce you to this author, read Ms. Danticat’s coming of age story, and conclude with a discussion.  Children’s Activity:  When Will You Be An Adult?    Hymn 127; Readings 463 and 616.  Host:  Ed & Joyce Bergtholdt

May 11:          Annual Meeting and Potluck    Our meeting will take place at the regular time, at the home of Mary Burnside near Springville.   Driving directions:  Take 190 toward Springville; pass River Island Golf Course on the right and make a RIGHT turn on Globe Drive (about l/4 mild past the golf course); Go l.7 miles up Globe Dr. to a black and white checkered mailbox on the left (5 driveways past the chapel).  Address is 33458 Globe Dr.  The house and yard are flat - no steps anywhere inside or out.  We are invited to stroll the gardens of native plants.

May 18:          Stories Read by Contemporary Native American Writers—Listen to the writers read from their work as recorded on a CD.  Enjoy their humor, warmth and sadness.  Children’s Activity:  Yokut Indians.

May 25:          Title IX Women’s Athletics in Schools and Colleges—A short documentary video about a two time Olympic rower who brought national attention to the Yale University rowing program and the inequity between male and female rowers.  Children’s Activities:  Scrapbook for Active Girls from the Women’s Sports Foundation.  Hymn 109;   Reading 560.    Host:  Ed & Joyce Bergtholdt

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Mindful Living Group – We meet on most Sunday afternoons from 3:00 to 4:30.  Everyone is welcome.  We focus on engaged and applied Buddhism, meditation and mindfulness practice, and collective awakening.  For more information, call Susan Ocean at 783-9722.

Tuesday Reading Group – The Tuesday Reading Group meets 3:30 - 5:00 pm. This month we will conclude our discussion of Religions with a look at the Chinese religions and Buddhism.  We will then explore the question, “What is the ultimate meaning of life?” and other basic human questions that people have been asking that have given rise to the emergence of religions.  Feel free to join us.

The next Board meeting will be held concurrently with the Annual Meeting on Sunday, May 11.  Please contact a member if you have business on which they need to act.
